Maharishi Award to PoliceJUNE 2004
Ian Arrowsmith, Inspector James Lee, John Collins, Andy Lewis This week the Transcendental Meditation group in Skelmersdale presented a Maharishi Award to Inspector James Lee of Skelmersdale Police Station. Lancashire Constabulary has recently been named as one of the top police forces in England and Wales, and Skelmersdale's force found to be the best in Lancashire. Based on last year's figures Skelmersdale police station is 2nd in the country for detecting burglaries (35%) and vehicle crime (16%). In addition, 68% of violent crime was detected which is the highest in the force. This year actual crime rates in Skelmersdale have fallen sharply. The Maharishi Foundation Award is for the outstanding achievements of the Skelmersdale Police, led by Inspector Lee, and its contribution to the enhancement of quality of life in the community. Maharishi Foundation Director, John Collins commented: "We are very proud of the track record of our police in Skelmersdale. Inspector Lee's creative and innovative approach is yielding great results both in terms of reduction and prevention of crime." Inspector James Lee said: "It's a great honour to receive this award and I accept it on behalf of all of my staff at the police station, both police and civilian, as they are the ones who have done all the hard work and achieved our great results .Its nice to be recognised by the community we serve and it means a lot."
