Pat Hughes Interview

A retired nursing sister, Pat Hughes moved to the Sidhaland 17 years ago. Pat spoke to our website reporter, William Gilmour, about how she enjoys her active retirement here.

William Gilmour [WG]: Pat, in your own words, how would you describe yourself?
Pat Hughes [PH]: Healthy, happy and soon to enjoy my 80th birthday.

WG: Very good, I agree. Why did you decide to move to the Sidhaland?
PH: I wanted to meditate in a large group.

WG: What do you enjoy most about living here?
PH: I love the feeling that whoever you encounter, they will share the same important values in life.

WG: What are your main activities?
PH: I always join group programme in the Golden Dome, morning and evening. All three of us in my house do. I look after my lodgers, house, and garden. I sing in a local choir – we sing everything from Bach’s St. Matthew Passion to folk songs. I like meeting friends – every evening there is something interesting on socially. We have such good parties here in the Sidhaland. I greatly enjoy my monthly stint manning the stall at the Attic Sale in the Woodley Park Centre.

WG: I know you love to travel, to see the world. Tell me where you’ve visited recently, and what you got up to.
PH: I paint pictures – I’ve travelled to India twice to paint lots of pictures, first to Rajasthan and then to Kerala. I visited the Artic Circle, but no painting there, much too cold! Wales is beautiful to drive to, and so near at hand if one has a car. I used to teach Transcendental Meditation in Wales, and I still love to visit. I have a country cottage in Cornwall. I’ve had many lovely holidays there with my friends from the Sidhaland.

WG: What would you like to do more of?
PH: I’d like to spend more time on the knowledge and courses which we are so privileged to have here. I love World Peace Assembly (WPA) courses for the total immersion in the Self they provide.

WG: What would you like to see more of in the Sidhaland?
PH: I’d love to have more members join us – the more the merrier. I am keen to help promote the Sidhaland, and make sure our visitors receive a warm welcome.

WG: What do you expect to be doing in ten years from now and where?
PH: I expect I shall be living quietly at my present home.

WG: That sounds so serene. Thank you, Pat.
PH: Thank you.

Pat Hughes’s cottage in Cornwall is available for holiday let. Pat can be contacted on 01695 724485.
