Sarah Fuller Interview

Sarah Fuller (17) was born here in Skelmersdale to meditating parents. Sarah enrolled at Maharishi School at the age of four. Sarah spoke to our website reporter, William Gilmour.
[Sarah’s mother Claire, a part-time artist, is involved in the development of Maharishi School. To view a lifestyle profile of Claire, click here.]

Describe yourself
I’m a student at college and I love studying Art and Modern Languages! I think I’m quite studious – but I love having fun with my friends, going out, seeing my boyfriend, etc.

On being brought up in a TM family*
From being in a TM family all my life, it means I’m very used to the whole TM thing. I like the fact that I’ve been brought up with a healthy lifestyle. It’s often strange when I have to explain to people, like new friends, about the community! I feel as though my family get along well, and there is very little tension despite the fact that it’s such a large family – I think this is a slightly unusual thing. We always have Sunday lunch together and my Mum and Richard cook really good food!!

* All of Sarah’s family practise Transcendental Meditation (TM) or the equivalent technique for young children.

On Maharishi School
I liked the friendly atmosphere of the School. The fact that it was very small, I think, enabled me to achieve the good GCSE results that I got! Doing TM before and after lessons really helped me concentrate.

On friendship and hobbies
I have a lot of hobbies – including being lazy and playing on the computer! At the moment, I’m really interested in the language course I’m doing. I’m trying to teach my friend some French and Spanish in preparation for our holiday through France and Spain that we’ve planned for this year! I also like to be creative, making people cards, for example. I often babysit for my little brother.

On Friday nights
I often go to a local music concert or a bar with live bands with a group of friends – people from college or from the place where I used to go to band practice. Otherwise, I just stay at a friend’s house and watch a film or something.

On life after college
After college, I’m thinking of doing an Art Foundation year to help me decide whether or not to do Art at university. I’m not sure whether to do Art or Languages because I think I’m quite good at them both! After the Art Foundation, and before university, I’m taking a gap year. I’ll travel to France and Spain again to perfect my language skills, then to Australia for Christmas because I love it there so much! After university, I’m not sure what I’ll do as it depends on the course I choose...but I can see myself earning a living from art, translation or even teaching!
