Victoria Rossiter Interview

The eldest of four children, Victoria Rossiter (16) was born here in Skelmersdale to meditating parents. Victoria enrolled at Maharishi School at the age of four. She sits her GCSE exams this summer (2005). Victoria shares some insights into life as a teenage Sidha.

[Victoria’s dad Kevin works in multimedia, and is a major player in the ongoing development of the Maharishi European Sidhaland website. To view a lifestyle profile of Kevin, click here.

On being brought up in a TM family*
When I was a kid, I never noticed that my family were different to any other. I just found that things always seemed to go well. All my friends were from TM families too, so I was always surrounded by a happy atmosphere.

* All of Victoria’s family practise Transcendental Meditation (TM) or the equivalent technique for young children.

On Maharishi School
I have known most of my classmates since I was four. Now, we are all very close. Sometimes it feels as if they are my brothers and sisters!

On life as a teenage Sidha**
Now I’m a Sidha and I’m finding it great. Ever since I’ve learned, I feel much better about myself and my life. I have my exams soon, and I think I will do well – I’m not nervous or stressed at all. I just know I will do my best and it’ll be fine. Being a Sidha has really helped, and I’m glad I’ve learned this young. I can see a difference in my other friends who have learned it too. Five of us from Maharishi School completed the Yogic Flying block together. One boy in my class who went on the course with me has changed drastically. Before, he was quite lazy and not very interested in schoolwork. But now there’s a world of difference – he’s like a different person. He’s organised and is working harder than ever.

** Victoria has completed the advanced TM-Sidhi programme (which includes Yogic Flying).

On friendship and hobbies
I have many friends now that I’ve made outside of school, and I can tell a difference between them and school friends, but it’s great nonetheless. I like to think I have a good influence on them too! I get on well with most people I meet, and being a Sidha has only made this better. I have a good social life and at home, most of my relationships with people are super – me and my friends hardly ever argue or fight at all.

Another hobby of mine is photography and drawing. I love to take photos of my friends and family, or of plants, and draw pictures from them. It’s a nice, calm activity for Sunday afternoons.

On Friday nights
At the weekends, I often go to Manchester with my friends; it’s so different to Skelmersdale, very exciting. Sometimes I go to local gigs too, on Fridays in Ormskirk. Lots of my friends play in bands too – I like to go and support them.

On life after Maharishi School
I’ll be finished at the Maharishi School soon, and after my exams I hope to go to Winstanley College, five miles away in Upholland. It’s the 4th best college in the country. When I go I would like to study French, Art, Maths, IT and business management. These are my best subjects; I really enjoy them at school now.

After I finish college, I hope to go to University to study French or Art in more detail.
